  • Why did you join Phi Sigma Pi?
    • I was looking to join a club on campus where I could meet new people with similar interests. I found PSP and as I got to know more about the people and the activities of the fraternity I thought it was a perfect fit for me.
  • How has it changed your life since you decided to join? (Brothers only)
    • I have become more confident and learned to work with groups (I tend to like to run the show – big surprise, I know J). I have also built friendships with people who I would have never met without PSP and I know that even when I graduate these friendships will continue!
  • Sum up Delta Rho in three words/phrases
    • Awkward (which is why I fit in so well), Full of inspiration, A home away from home.
  • Do you think people can change?
    • I believe that certain things about people can change. I think that who people are is engrained in them, but they can change the way they act/react in a situation and their opinions and ideas can change over time as well.
  • What is one misconception people have about you?
    • That I’m intimidating
  • What accomplishments are you proud of in your life so far?
    • I’m proud of my education. I have worked hard to get to this point and sometimes I have wanted so badly to give up. But I stuck with it and now I will be graduating in spring!!
  • What do you think about when you are alone in your car?
    • Mostly my future: conversations I want to have with people, what I’ll do over the weekend, when I’ll get to visit my family out of town, and other things of that nature.
  • How would you rate your memory?
    • If I do something embarrassing I’ll remember it forever! If it’s a homework assignment I’ll forget it unless I write it down.
  • Would you say you are more introverted or extroverted?
    • Definitely introverted
  • Biggest pet peeve?
    • When people don’t know how to use an apostrophe.

  • Whole, skim, 1%, or 2% milk?

  • What are some of your fears?

    • Graduation!!!

    • Not usually, but I will take the lotion bottles if I like the smell.
  • Pick 2 celebrities to be your parents
    • Robert Downy Jr. and Lisa Kudrow
  • Do you prefer the beach or the mountains?
    • Hmmm, difficult question. I do love the Colorado Mountains and I like to snowboard, but the beach is so inviting and pretty as well. Can I have both?
  • Any advice for future members?
    • Always be yourself; if something is bothering you speak up; don’t let one bad day ruin your PSP experience.

Position: Recruitment Advisor
Previous Positions Held: Service Chair, Senior Night Head
Semester Joined: Spring 2012
Class: X (Chi)
Estimated Graduation: December 2015
Major: Elementary Ed, Concentration of Mathematics and a Mathematics Minor

  • Why did you join Phi Sigma Pi?
    • I really wanted to be involved on campus and in the community. I thought PSP would be a great place to always know people of all ages and all majors, so I didn’t only hang out with people from my major.
  • How has it changed your life since you decided to join? (Brothers only)
    • I have created bonds that will last a lifetime and memories that will as well!
  • Sum up Delta Rho in three words/phrases
    • Brotherhood, Quirky, and Outrageous! J
  • Do you believe in love at first sight?
    • No! This frustrates me so much when people think that you can love someone at first sight because here’s the thing… you don’t know them at all! Love at first sight is extremely superficial and it can’t be love in my opinion because you in order to truly love someone you must be in love with every aspect of them, especially their heart.
  • Would you say you are more introverted or extroverted?
    •  I’m totally an extrovert! I love people and I love being around people. I get my energy from hanging out with friends and laughing (of course laughing!). So I must apologize to all of my introverts because I totally steal your energy! Love ya!
  • Lemonade or iced tea?
    • Arnold Palmer duh!
  • What is your favorite Halloween costume you have dressed up in?
    • I was a present in the sixth grade! (this one’s for you J-man)
  • What are your guilty pleasures?
    • COFFEE! COFFEE! COFFEE!!!!!!!! (“Yuck! Yuck! It’s terrible but wonderful it’s like freedom in a cup!!!!” from Open Season) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4S5ethZhgqs
  • Do you wear socks to bed?
    • I seriously can’t sleep with socks on no matter how cold it is. So, even if I go to bed with socks on they end up smooshed in my covers or on the floor by morning!
  • Do you prefer the beach or the mountains?
    • Colorado Native baby! Mountains all day!
  • Any advice for future members?
    • Get to know as many members as you can and don’t wish away a single day of this because we only have a limited time here at UNC, so make the best of it!

Name: Jared Hudson

Position: Brother
Previous Positions Held: Initiate Secretary
Semester Joined: Spring 2012
Class: Chi (X)
Estimated Graduation: Winter 2015
Major: English

  • Why did you join Phi Sigma Pi?
Well, I received the e-mail and at first found it off-putting. The word “fraternity” just didn’t do it for me. I immediately thought about the social stereotype associated with the word but after reading further into the e-mail, I decided to give it a chance. Once I met the people, I think I was pretty much sold!
  • How has it changed your life since you decided to join? (Brothers only)
I have many friends that I know are lifelong, and I’ve really grown as a person these past two years. PSP has a knack at bringing out the best in people. My life has changed in the sense that it’s more open.
  • Sum up Delta Rho in three words/phrases
Fun. Solidarity. Down to earth.
  • Do you think people can change?
Yes. With enough time, patience, and the actual want to change, it can happen.
  • What is one misconception people have about you?
That I am mean or rude. I have the best intentions but sometimes my wording comes out completely wrong. I have foot-in-mouth syndrome fierce.
  • What motivates you?
Failure, because it pushes me to never reach that low again and do better the next time. Sometimes it’s like a second chance. This way, I’ll know what path to take the next time.  Friends motivate me because they keep me sane. They know and understand me (sometimes better than I do myself), so they know what to say or do to keep me on my toes. My family has that undeniable and endless love that will forever keep me going. Plus, they have so much faith in me that I don’t only succeed for myself, I do it for them too. People who do better or are a lot more successful than me are pure motivation because I treat them like blueprints. I know I can be like them one day so I build myself up around what they’ve done while adding my own flair. It keeps me going. An example of this would be when I read a really good book, or just a great line in a book and it makes me go, “Wow! Why didn’t I think of that?” Not to recycle but haters are also my motivators because I like to think that they also love me. They just haven’t figured out how to show it in the correct way yet.
  • What accomplishments are you proud of in your life so far?
Being in college, being out, maintaining a good GPA, and already planning for the future.
  • What is one goal you’d like to accomplish during your lifetime?
Write a novel. To see my name on the cover of a book would just be surreal.
  • What do you think your best quality is?
Kindness, hands down. I strongly believe in the saying, “Treat people how you want to be treated.” I not only follow that but I just like being nice in general. It’s something I can’t shake. It’s just part of who I am. Kindness comes as easy to me as breathing.
  • What do you think about when you are alone in your car?
First of all, I don’t have a car. But I’m working on it! This is a question you should ask future Jared… I’m guessing what I’d be thinking about is where I’m going, what I have to do, what song to listen to next, or did I remember to turn the stove off?
  • How would you rate your memory?
Hmmm… A seven probably, like a mix of satisfactory and proficient. Some things I remember vividly and others need time to develop, like photos. I’m terrible at names, but I’m good at faces. So, to sum it up, I think the rate of my memory fluctuates. Maybe a seven is too high a rating.
  • Do you believe in love at first sight?
Yes. At first I wanted to say no, but I’m not that cynical. I have not experienced it (unfortunately) but I’m going to have faith that it’s a real thing.
  • Would you say you are more introverted or extroverted?
Introvert! I compare myself to a rose. I’m a bud when you first get to know me but I’ll gradually bloom after a while. But even then, I’m reserved and quiet. I mean, I may not be this way with my friends but generally, I’m an introvert all the way. I have never been an extrovert at first sight.
  • Biggest pet peeve?
Being called selfish. This might even be a bigger pet peeve than slurping because it fires me up instantaneously.
  • What Hogwarts House do you belong to?
Ravenclaw. Reading the books and watching the movies, I thought I was a Gryffindor but over time, I started to really click with Ravenclaw. I mean, wit, learning, and wisdom? That’s totally me! And you best believe I’d rock the blue and bronze. But after becoming a member of Pottermore, I was sorted into Gryffindor. I’m still conflicted about it… I love being a Gryffindor but Ravenclaw will always have a special place in my heart.
  • Unique or quirky habit?
Er… My feet cramp.

  • If you could only listen to one artist for the rest of your life (but they could sing any song), who would it be?
Imogen Heap. If you haven’t heard of her, I would not be surprised; she’s a VERY underrated artist, which is really too bad. But it could also be a good thing, like finding a buried jewel. Her voice is beautiful and how she makes her music is just so innovative! Listen to “Just for Now,” the studio and live versions. LOVE IT.
  • If you could transport yourself anywhere instantly, where would you go and why?
Venice, Italy because that is the place I want to travel to most in my life. Get myself on a gondola and just let go… Either there or the office of Shigeru Miyamoto and tear him a new one for what he did to Paper Mario: Sticker Star. What do you mean it doesn’t need to have a story when that was the foundation the first two (and even the third one) were built on?! How dare he…
Growing up, what were your favorite toys to play with as a child?
I don’t know… I had yellow dump truck I liked push around.
  • Lemonade or iced tea?
Iced tea. Something about that taste... It’s refreshing, smooth, and sophisticated. I also like lemonade but iced tea takes the cake on this one. For lemonade’s sake, Arnold Palmers are okay in my book.
  • Who was the last person you talked to on the phone?
My sister. She put something on Facebook that I knew had to be a joke but I still had to call to be sure.
  • What was the last thing you ate?
A grape.

  • Do you ever count your steps when you walk?
No. I walk too fast for all that!
  • What is your favorite Halloween costume you have dressed up in?
Storm from X-Men for Halloween 2013. So much fun, so many compliments, and I worked the heck out of it.
  • Whole, skim, 1%, or 2% milk?
Er… Whole or 2%.
  • What color is your toothbrush?
Blue and white.
  • Favorite letter of the alphabet? Least favorite?
S is my favorite letter of the alphabet. I like the sound and the way it curls. Or swirls? Least favorite letter, you say? I don’t think I have one.
  • What are your guilty pleasures?
Trash television. Bad Girls’ Club, Jerry Springer, Maury… Yup. I also like this show called Drawn Together which I wouldn’t categorize as trash television but you have to have a very open humor to find it funny. If you’re closed minded watching the show, that might make it even funnier for me.
  • What are some of your fears?
Spiders, rejection, and failure.
  • Favorite hobbies?
Baking, shopping online, reading, writing, and playing video games (mainly Mario).
  • Favorite memory?
This is a loaded question! I have many but the one on my head right now is going to Celestial Seasonings with my dorm mates in April 2012.
  • If you could have an endless supply of any food, what would you get?
Catfish.
  • Do you wear socks to bed?
Nope. The comforter and sheets are enough for my feet.
  • What is currently bugging you?
My Geology class. Can it be over and can I pass? Ugh, so over it.
  • What are you looking forward to?
The day when I finally get a boyfriend. Being single is alright and all but I am LONELY. Where is he hiding? Is he hiding? I seriously have no clue but I’m looking forward to that day. Hopefully it’s close but I won’t get my hopes up.
  • What are you not looking forward to?
Paying back these student loans, lemme tell you!
  • What things do you not like to do?
Lie. I hate to lie. I’m kind of bad at it. I also don’t like moving, at least too much. The packing and unpacking can be so tedious.

  • If you were to get rid of one state in the US, which would it be and why?
I have no idea. But I will say that Arizona and Texas are two states I can name off the top of my head that need to get their *bleep* together.
  • A penguin walks through that door right now wearing a sombrero. What does he say and why is he here?
“Frosty cactus!” and he’s here because he can’t find the ice rink.
  • What’s the last song you heard?
“Sara Smile,” a Hall & Oates cover by the bird and the bee (no grammatical mistake, that’s how their name is stylized). Makes me wish my name was Sara because I cannot stop grinning. That’s good music right there. And the song before that was “Boy” by Little Mix. Can we say throwback to 90s R&B? Because, yes ma’am!

  • Are you happy winter is coming soon?
Yes! I’m excited for all the snow, my winter scents, and turtlenecks! Oooh, and let’s not forget Christmas! Almost time to break out the decorations and turn up to 375 degrees for those sugar cookies!
  • Do you take the shampoo and conditioner bottles from hotels?
Girl, yes. One time they had Bath & Body Works’ Coconut Lime Verbena and all I said was, “Please and thank you.” Into the suitcase they went, along with a pillow or two. Yes. I’m that person.
  • Do you sleep with your closet doors open or closed?
Closed. I don’t want to wake up and have that darkness staring me in the face. If something should come out, let it run into the door to give me some warning!
  • Pick 2 celebrities to be your parents
Just so y’all know, I like my own parents very much, thanks! But I’ll answer this anyway for fun. Um, probably Will and Jada Smith or just have Queen Latifah as a mom.
  • Do you prefer the beach or the mountains?
Never been to the beach before but I’m leaning towards it anyway!
  • What is the last book you read?
I Wore the Ocean in the Shape of a Girly by Kelle Groom for one of my English classes. Really depressing memoir and emotionally powerful, but in a good way.
  • If you could see any musician live, front row, who would you choose?
IMOGEN HEAP! I missed her three years ago because I had to work and I’m still beating myself up over it. Either her or Late Night Alumni. Both make fantastic music.
  • Any advice for future members?
Jump into this with your heart and soul. You’ll get what you give and any troubles you may encounter are nothing against the love and unity of the Brothers. Y’all got this.
